Back to Johnson

Dear Mister, you read books from beginning to the end?

When younger, I used to devour books and am now down to shreds.
Maybe I am finally developing something of my own.
Even Arthur would agree: it is only the people who do not think that read excessively.

For all those who on the contrary believe this is nothing but lack of discipline and too weak kind of food for thought, I offer two quotations out of today's selection of five:

There are only two kinds of scholars; those who love ideas and those who hate them.
- Emile Chartier

I was so naive as a kid I used to sneak behind the barn and do nothing.
- Johnny Carson
